Ryan Larkin
I’m pleased to see that Chris Landreth’s film Ryan won an Academy Award for best animated short. I don’t remember Ryan Larkin at all but his name, address, and phone number are in one of my old address books so I apparently knew him. Probably around 1964 or 65.
In 1971 Nikki Lipman called to say Larkin was moving out to Vancouver to teach an animation course at the Vancouver Art school and would need accommodation for a few months and did I have any? I was too depressed to rent out any rooms so I said no.
Later, when I saw Walking at an all-day NFB marathon at the art school I deeply regretted not giving Larkin those spare rooms up in the attic. It would probably have been good for me to have a genius kicking around the place for a while.
