dylan

Coincidentally, two days ago I happened on this recording, made by Jack Nissenson, of Bob Dylan at the Finjan in Montreal, July 2, 1962 – further evidence, as though I needed it – that (a) life is full of fascinating (to me) connections and (b) my memory is my most unreliable friend. For forty-four years I thought I'd been in Vancouver when Dylan was in Montreal, performing at the Potpourri and the Finjan. If the July 2, 1962 date is correct, then I was in New York, probably hanging out at the Cafe Wha? or Gerde's Folk City.

Nissenson was in my brother Sam's graduating class at McGill which I only knew because I read Sam's yearbook cover to cover, many times. I'd have been about ten at the time. I didn't know Jack till later, when he was a member of the Mountain City Four and a regular at Peace House.
